Volunteers

Become a Volunteer!

Volunteers are essential to the success of SSBC National Finals. As a volunteer, you will be able to directly interact with and help make memories for students as they embark on a career in civil, structural, architectural, and construction engineering.

No engineering background or competition experience is required - all necessary information will be provided at the competition. Learn more about the different volunteer positions below and complete the following form if you are interested!

Competition Judges

Under the supervision and instruction of the national head judge, judges conduct the events of the competition, interpret and enforce the Rules, score the bridges, and monitor safety concerns. Judges should be able to walk around for the duration of the competition. Tasks may include taking measurements, operating a stopwatch, and recording scores. All judges are required to attend a training session, May 31st from 11:00 am - 2:30 pm.

Bridge Marshal

Each competing team will have an assigned bridge marshal who will carry the judging forms and lead teams to their assigned stations. Bridge marshals stay with the team throughout construction, loading, weighing, and final score entry. Bridge marshals are also welcome to sign up for other volunteer shifts on Friday and Sunday.

Volunteers

Volunteers will assist the planning committee in tasks throughout the competition such as competition set up & clean up, team registration, and more. Volunteers will be needed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. A shift sign-up link will be sent out to all registered volunteers.

Please contact Trevor Fortier at tjf026@latech.edu for any questions regarding volunteering.
