Teams are responsible for the transportation of students and bridges to/from the competition and on campus. 

Flying to Des Moines International Airport

The nearest major airport to Iowa State University  is Des Moines International Airport. The approximate highway distance between the airport and Ames is 35 miles. You can take a shuttle, taxi, or rideshare to get from the airport to Ames.  Executive Express is a shuttle service that runs between the airport and Iowa State University. The trip takes about an hour. Car rental agencies are located in the baggage claim area at the airport.

The nearest major airport to Iowa State University is Des Moines (DSM) Airport. The approximate highway distance between the airport and Iowa  State University is 35 miles. You can take a shuttle, taxi, or rideshare to get from the airport to Ames.  Executive Express is a shuttle service that runs between the airport and Iowa State University. The trip takes about an hour. Car rental agencies are located in the baggage claim area at the airport.


Flying to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP)

The largest nearby international airport is MSP, of which the driving distance between Minneapolis Airport (MSP) to Ames is 212 miles. It takes approximately 3h 27m to drive from Minneapolis Airport (MSP) to Ames. This airport will have the most available flights and rental car options compared to Des Moines Airport. 



Transportation in Ames

Taxis and rideshare services are available in Ames. The CyRide bus service is the primary public transportation option in Ames, especially for getting around the Iowa State University campus. There are several routes throughout the city, and it's free for Iowa State students, with a low fare for others.

Shipping Your Bridge

Bridges can be shipped in advance to Iowa State University. Schools will be responsible for picking up their own bridge from the shipping location during the designated pick-up window as well as all transportation to/from events. Once you have shipped your bridge please email or text the tracking number to the email or phone number below so we know how many bridges to expect and when delivery is expected. When shipping your bridge make sure you only are using ONE pallet per team. Please ensure that your package is waterproof as it may be raining the day your bridge arrives. Bridge pickup time will be Friday May 30th from 9:30 am - 11:30 am at the CCEE Surplus Warehouse. Note: we will have a forklift to unload bridges when they are delivered but not have a forklift on site the day of pickup. WE WILL START ACCEPTING BRIDGES MAY xxxxx

Additionally, teams are responsible for picking up their bridge from the shipping location on competition weekend. A time designated on Friday morning before the aesthetics competition for teams to pick up their bridge. Teams are also responsible for all costs associated with bridge shipping as well as the return shipping logistics. Louisiana Tech will not store any bridges following the competition.

Shipping Your Bridge Back Home

Shipping your bridges back to your university is entirely your team's responsibility. Below we have provided a few shipment locations in Ames. Please make shipment arrangements before the competition weekend. We recommend contacting the shipment facilities as soon as possible.
